A landmark in the capital city of the most Googled country.

Every year, Google publishes its ‘Year in Search’ data, a report showing what users have Googled over the past 12 months. Below, take a look at the top 10 countries and destinations that have seen the biggest search increases on Google year on year, and find inspiration for your 2025 travels.

The most Googled countries of 2024:

Croatia (10): This European country has been gradually garnering a reputation as a European travel hotspot, particularly as it's a more affordable holiday destination than much of the Mediterranean.

Mauritius (9): Back in the Eighties and Nineties, Mauritius was a beloved destination of the jet-set crowd, but over time it's allure faded. Particularly popular during the northern hemisphere's winter months, but actually an attractive destination year-round, the island nation is finally re-entering the golden zone of travel.

Mexico (8): With its diverse attractions, it's no surprise that Mexico sits in the top 10.

Cyprus (7): Floating in between Greece, Turkey and Lebanon - in the eastern Mediterranean - Cyprus is a melting pot of cultures.

Portugal (6): Despite dropping from fourth place to sixth place this year, interest still abounds for this European country.

Egypt (5): Egypt remains a firm entry on people's travel bucket lists, even though the Sahara covers 94 percent of the country. No doubt the fact that Cairo’s Grand Egyptian Museum is finally opening is adding to the allure.

Italy (4): Who could ever tire of Italy? The country is a mishmash of gorgeous fairytale towns and villages, bustling cities and pristine beaches.

Malta (3): The island is a hit European destination.

Greece (2): Greece topped the list of the most Googled countries to travel to in 2023, but slips to the second spot this year.

Turkey (1): It's remarkable to see a brand-new entry reach first place this year (it didn't make it to the top 10 in 2023). Turkey is truly deserving of its spot in the limelight; it's a wildly diverse country, full to the brim with culture, history, grand architecture and artistic prowess.
