You’d imagine it would be be no contest, particularly as an actual 911 GT3 RS can be picked up, says the Porsche website, for £192,600 - rather less than the sculpture went for at auction. Namely, £201,000 ($259,000).

1976 saw the launch of the stunning Porsche 934 for use in competition. Just 31 934s were made; it was driven to victory in the European GT Championship and Trans-Am championships of that year, and it has captivated racing enthusiasts ever since. And, it seems, people who like to buy life-sized sculptures of race cars.

The orange artwork is by British artist Benedict Radcliffe, who specialises in automotive sculptures like this. His work focuses on the raw shapes and details of cars by recreating them as wireframe models, using various industrial materials.

This particular work, originally produced for 2022’s Milan Design Week, recreates the 934 in 1:1 scale in 32mm orange steel tubing. After its debut in Milan, the sculpture travelled to China, being exhibited by the country’s Porsche division, and recently, it found itself up for auction on Collecting Cars.

During its week-long auction, there were 218 bids, the highest being the £201,000 put forward by a collector in Asia. Presumably, their house is big enough to fit a life-size Porsche sculpture somewhere.
