The Most Googled Travel Cities And Islands of 2024 by Brits

Every year, Google publishes its ‘Year in Search’ data, a report showing what UK users have Googled over the past 12 months. Here are the most Googled cities and islands.

Amalfi coast

The top 10 cities and islands the world seems most interested in visiting at some point in the future are as follows:

Ikaria, Greece (10): One of the only five original regions around the world with Blue Zone status, Ikaria is a small Aegean island where locals live eight to 10 years longer than the average American, with half the rate of heart disease and almost no dementia. Apart from its natural beauty, could this be why so many are keen to visit?

Sardinia, Italy (9): Another Blue Zone destination hits the list this year. Sardinia is home to the greatest concentration of male centenarians in the world, and has long been hailed for its laid-back attitude. Travellers are choosing where to visit based not only on the culture, history and food scenes in each destination, but also the holistic, well-rounded fulfilment.

Mallorca, Spain (8): This lovely Mediterranean island is much-loved for its miles of sandy beaches and secret coves, as well as being a reliably family-friendly destination - particularly for those seeking a luxury villa holiday.

New York, USA (7): New York, the city that never sleeps, is always on travellers' minds.

Ibiza, Spain (6): There's something particularly special about Ibiza, with its hard-hitting party scene softening in recent years, melting into bohemian beach hideouts, softly seductive stays and plenty to discover in-between.

Fuerteventura, Spain (5): The perfect winter-sun holiday destination, this sun-baked island is home to rolling sand dunes, crystal-clear waters and otherworldly nature. Located in the Canary Islands, off the west coast of Morocco.

Symi, Greece (4): Quiet, laid-back Grecian beauty at its finest.

Lanzarote, Spain (3): The second Canary Island to feature on the 2024 list, Lanzarote has always been a winner for those looking for a reliably sunny destination that feels more far-flung than the typical European hotspots.

Benidorm, Spain (2): A well-loved Spanish destination for British travellers who like to party.

Tenerife, Spain (1): This is the fifth Spanish entry in this year's list of the top 10 most-searched places - quite an achievement. Tenerife's popularity is a masterclass in endurance. The largest of the Canaries, Tenerife has endless fodder for travellers.
