What's next for Finland’s youngest ever leader as she pivots away from politics?
After four years in the premiership, making her the third and longest running female prime minister in Finland, Sanna Marin left office in June. That was the month after she filed for divorce from the father of her child, and her partner of 19 years, Markus Räikkönen.
You may recall she got into a bit of a media storm for attending a wild party in 2022 (and had to take a drug test to prove she had not been under the influence), but now it seems that the young former prime minister, who is still only 37, should no longer have to worry about letting her hair down.
However, her first new assignment keeps her in the global power game. She has accepted a role as a strategic counsellor for Tony Blair’s London-based Institute for Global Change. The non-profit works directly with international governments and leaders, advising on strategy, policy and delivery. She told a press conference as she announced her departure from politics: ‘I believe that I can serve those voters (in Finland) well and maybe even better in the new assignment.’
Much more intriguingly - at least, for everyone outside government circles - is that Marin has reportedly signed with the Beverly Hills talent agency Range Media Partners. The agency includes numerous stars on its books, such as Bradley Cooper, Johnny Depp, Naomi Ackie and Keira Knightley.
So, it looks like Sanna Marin is setting forth on a scintillating second act. No longer bound by the constraints of her political position, there is a distinct sense of belated liberation to her social media output of late. Did you see the pics of her with Sharon Stone in Hollywood a couple of weeks ago in the papers? Before that, Marin was in Paris for fashion week, looking impossibly glamorous and snapped with Anna Wintour. Her Instagram stories were populated with selfies and images of her fashion week invites and accessories.
We'll have to wait and see what really happens next...
What's Jacinda Ardern Up To Now? Regarded as one of New Zealand's most important and popular leaders in recent history, Ardern declared in her resignation speech that she "no longer had enough in the tank" to fulfill the office of the premiership. She then disappeared from the limelight after her surprise resignation in January, but now appears to be getting her mojo back...
